Support for Bill Faber
Filed under:

— Gary Sawyer @ 12:27 pm

Decatur needs a person who cares what happens to his town. Also who cares about people and what they want for Decatur.
The person qualified for this position is Bill Faber. He will always be willing to listen to the people about what their concerns are.
An honest person we can count on. He would always be available to listen to your views.
Please go to polls and vote for a good, decent, qualified person.
My vote will be for Bill Fa-ber for city council.

Faber would benefit Decatur

— Gary Sawyer @ 3:49 pm

We would like to say that the city of Decatur would benefit greatly by having Bill Faber on the city council. In our years of knowing him we have found him to be a very caring person for the city of Decatur and the people of this city, the young and older ones. Mr. Faber is a very intelligent man with some very great ideals for our city. The city of Decatur would have a great asset in his voice. He has our vote and my family as well. I hope down the road he would run for state representative.

Faber would be an asset to council

Bill Faber would be an as-set to the City Council. Bill Faber is a man of honesty, integrity, and morality in my opinion. I have known Bill for more than 30 years and during that time he has always presented himself as a gentleman.
I believe that Faber is en-tering this race in good faith, with the objective of making Decatur a better city to live and work in.
I don’t believe that Faber has an axe to grind with any of the present council mem-bers. He only believes that he can bring new ideas to the city council that may perhaps be an avenue to a better Decatur.
Please join me in support-ing Bill Faber for the City Council.

Put in a common sense pit bull law
Filed under:

    * General

— Gary Sawyer @ 3:30 pm

Freedom demands responsibility. The evidence shows that pit bulls are a clear and present danger to the community.
Mail carriers, police officers, firefighters, city inspectors, and neighborhood kids stand at risk of attack. Gang-bangers and drug dealers parade pit bulls as weapons – as their new Colt 45s.
A plague descends upon our community. Just ask Barbara Brooks, an inspector for the Decatur Housing Authority. A pit bull mauled her in the 1600 block of East Marietta Ave.
The dealers want the freedom to own pit bulls, but run from the responsibility of paying for injury inflicted by the dog’s attacks. If the pit bull owners won’t pay, then you and I, as taxpayers, must pay.
Barbara Brooks and I ask the Decatur City Council to enact an ordinance to make pit bull owners carry insur-ance to pay the victim’s bills. To be responsible. Common sense tells us this is fair.

Satellite police stations would solve overcrowding
Filed under:

— Gary Sawyer @ 4:29 pm

Here is an idea to help make room for our Decatur police officers at their cramped headquarters: cre-ate four neighborhood satellite stations. This will accomplish two goals: 1) make room at headquarters, and 2) create an important police presence in the neighborhoods.
The stations would be created through the purchase and renovation of four exist-ing homes. I expect the cost of purchase and remodeling would be less than $100,000 each.
Chief Anderson can best figure the staffing, but here is a projection: on each shift the satellite office could be manned by one civilian clerk and two to four officers who work from the satellite sta-tion.
The plan should be imple-mented one step at a time. Set up one station and see how well it works over a period of six months. Then set up the next three stations.
The cost of this satellite plan will be insignificant in comparison to the construction of a new multi-million dollar facility.

The U.S. needs more manufacturing
Filed under:

    * General

— Gary Sawyer @ 5:37 pm

Several times I have written to warn of the danger of the U.S. trade policy with China. The U.S. must revise policy to propel manufactur-ing in America. Here is an apt quotation about Rome’s demise:

“Rome lived upon its leg-end till ruin stared it in the face. Industry is the only true source of wealth, and there was no industry in Rome. The Ostia road brought goods from the East, spices, marble and timber. But the carts coming out of Rome carried out nothing buy loads of dung.” Winwood Reade, The Martyrdom of Man (1872).

The people must not listen to the politicians, the CEOs and the economists who say that American workers must accept job loss because glob-alization cannot be halted. America holds the power to change the rules. Unless the trade rules change, cities like Decatur hold no future for their children. Thank you.

In favor of Faber

Every so often an article written by Mr. William Faber appears in the Herald & Review.

If you have not read these items you have missed one of the best parts of the newspa-per.
Mr. Faber’s opinions are old-fashioned and down-home. He does not try to tell you that his thoughts are gospel, but comes to the point of interest in a professional way.

Mr. Faber pays for these stories.

I am looking forward to his next story. Keep up the good work.
